DLR is represented by a research group at the HIU. The group Multiphysics Modelling investigates the following battery types

- Li-Ion Batteries

- Post-Lithium Batteries

- All-Solid-State Batteries

The researchers derive mathematical equations for electrochemical processes in batteries from the principles of statistical physics. For example, they simulate ion transport in microstructure-resolved electrodes and optimize entire battery cells in collaboration with experimental research groups. Modeling allows the researchers to gain deep insight into nano-scale processes at interfaces that determine the performance and lifetime of electrochemical energy storage devices.
